Hatchet 3 was the film that was a horror in the Hatchet trilogy. It tells the story of Victor Crowley, his murderous rampage through Louisiana's Honey Island Swamp. Kane Hodder plays Victor Crowley, Brian Quinn portrays Deputy Winslow, Rileah vanderbilt portrays Misty.
Its practical special effects are the film's greatest strength. Hatchet 3 is a horror film that employs CG effects in a lesser degree than other films. Hatchet 3 has a number of makeup effects that are practical and sets that result in some truly terrifying scenes in the movie.
The cast is solid and the lead actor Kane Hodder proving to be an formidable villain. The dialogue is so funny and tongue-in (click blogs) cheek that it could be like a classic 1980s horror movie. There are also certain moments of genuine comedy throughout, which provide a comical contrast against all of the gut-wrenching action on screen.
However because of the small budget (reportedly just $1 million) many locations used are repeats from earlier films in the series--the same boat house was featured two times within the movie and much of it appears to be a re-use from other films in this franchise. Hatchet or Hatchet2 may feel the film is familiar.
Overall, I was impressed by Hatchet 3 even though it was very similar to previous entries in this series--it provided lots of bloody thrills as well as some entertaining performances by its cast members.
